Description
The Holocaust was part of a new order in Europe set by the Nazis. It came from the ideal the Aryans, also known as Germans, were the superior race. Everyone, of not of pure German blood were considered inferior. The considered inferior group included Jews, homosexuals, gypsies, Poles, Russians, the insane, the disabled, and the incurably ill. However, the main focus was on the Jews.
The first stages of this new order consisted of only transporting the Jews. Getting them to emigrate to a place other then Germany. Countries like France, Great Britain, Latin America, The United States took in 25,000-100,000 Jews. After this Hitler, the leader for the Nazi group, created ghettos. Ghettos were certain cities in Poland separated aside for just the Jews. They were overcrowded, and had an overwhelming list unsanitary conditions. Here the Jews were left to die of either disease or starvation.
Hitler soon grows very impatient waiting for the Jews to die, that he decides that it was time to take a more direct action. From this comes the Final Solution. The Final Solution is considered a direct act of Genocide, it was the systematic killing of an entire people. Jews, and all the other inferior or "subhumans" were victims of the Final Solution. In 1939, after Hitler invaded Poland, Nazi armies hunted down Jews, they rounded up women, men, children and even babies. Then they took them to isolated areas, and shot them all into pits. If they were not shot then they were sent to concentration camps, also known as slave-labor prisons. Theses camps were mostly located in Poland, but then spread into the countries that Germany occupied. Their the "subhumans" were left to work seven days a week as slaves. They died of malnourishment, loosing up to 50 pounds the first month, beatings, and exhaustion.
In 1942 the Final Solution reached its last stage, extermination. The Nazis had built extermination camps equipped with gas chambers for mass murder. Camps like Chelmno and Auschwitz were built in Poland and began working in late 1941. Auschwitz was and till this day continues to have the most notorious reputation as the largest death camp that could kill up to 6,000 humans in a day. The prisoners of these camps would go in thinking it was a regular shower but instead of water coming out of the shower heads it was cyanide gas. Later the dead bodies were put into crematoriums, to burn the bodies. An approximated six million Jews died in the death camps and fewer than four million survived.
